“MULTI-AGENCY INITIATIVE BRINGS HOPE TO THE PEOPLE OF PATEL WITH 14 YELLOW BOATS”

REGION XI, Asuncion, DDN—More than 200 kids from Sitio Patel of Barangay Gupitan, Kapalong, Davao Del Norte benefitted from an outreach program made possible by the joint effort of the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, Department of Education, Tactical Operation Group 11 (TOG11), 60th Infantry Battalion (60IB), Kiwanis International and KIDSABA on Saturday.

The Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation led by Atty. Marlisa Gallo, in partnership with TOG 11 under Lt. Col. Ritchie Pabilonia, collaborated to bring 14 boats to the residents of Sitio Patel last February 11. This time, the same group provided 14 gasoline engines for the boats which are intended to help the children of Patel—who used to swim across the river just to get to school—arrive at their classrooms safe and dry. The yellow boats and motor engines were sponsored by the Metrobank Foundation.

Meanwhile, about 100 kids joined the “tanggal kuto” (lice removal) session with KIDSABA and Kiwanis International. The kids surely enjoyed the free shampooing experience with their visitors at the very river they cross every day for school. Kiwanis and KIDSABA also conducted a feeding session where they fed the kids with bread and champorado (chocolate rice porridge). They were assisted by the teachers from Patel Elementary School and some members of the Philippine Elementary School Principals Association (PESPA).

The 60th Infantry Battalion led by its Commander, Lt. Col. Emmanuel Canilla, on the other hand, gave free haircut to over 100 kids. They also assisted in the feeding session and hosted the boodle fight that catered all the visitors as well as the kids of Patel. The Bravo Company of 60IB led by 1lt. Renan Roldan also provided security and additional physical and technical assistance to ensure the success of the event.

Also in attendance during the program was East Kapalong DepEd District Supervisor, Ms. Sarah Cubar, who led the PESPA and hosted the activity in Patel Elementary School. Kapalong IPMR Datu Art Davao together with Datus Laris Mansaloon and Onging Mansaloon of Barangay Gupitan were also present.
