Hello from Sitio Lipata, Caramoan, Camarines Sur! It’s been 3 years since we (BEAGIVER) adopted this community. Life in the island has changed for the better. Kids still have their red school bags after 2 years, the water tank we built is a huge help to the entire community, the “Bangkarunungan boat” we donated in partnership with Convergys has brought learning to the doorstep of this remote island. Our #BeTheLight campaign has given 800 solar lamps to the pupils and their parents [the island has no electricity]. Yesterday, children and parents were so ecstatic to replace their “banana leaf” baunan with an airtight lock and lock food keeper, thanks to our partner Lock and Lock – Philippines through its #LockInLove project. Though far from civilization, pupils are now assured of quality education because Smart Communications, Inc.’s “School In A Bag” project has provided kits complete with digital learning materials and modules to keep the pupils at par and competitive with students in the metro.
Most exciting of all, today was the turnover of a two- room, typhoon- resilient classrooms to the community through the love and generosity of Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation. Another milestone for the community.
Congrats and thank you to all stakeholders who’ve come together in bringing hope to the resilient residents of this tiny island. Our salute to the hardworking ALS teachers. You are our heroes!
