Frequently compared with the famous El Nido, Palawan due to its scenic beauty, Caramoan’s solace and tranquility due to its seclusion is the ace up its sleeve that has earned it a great deal of appreciation from its visitors. But off the tourist trail of Caramoan paints a not so picturesque side of the peninsula. The isolation that made the place an awe-inspiring natural wonder also made it endure a painful pause in the march of progress.

An End Brings Hope to a New Beginning: The story of Jenny Tulawi of Simariki, Zamboanga City

Jenny Tulawi is the first recipient of a yellow boat in Simariki Island Ancestral Domain of Zamboanga City. When Jenny received the boat, she was still in 5th Grade at 14 years old.

For the Sama-Banguingui youth of Simariki Island, the priority is not education, but putting food on the table. Jenny gets paid to tie seaweeds with her aunt whenever she gets the chance. But when this is not available, she goes around to pick seashells which she then sells to make ends meet.
